Left Coast Crime Day #2
I began my morning at 9 AM with the wonderful event called Author Speed-Dating. The attendees stayed seated as 40 authors visited our tables for 2 minutes per author. I loved texting, "Here I am, at almost 56, and I'm speed dating for the first time! Wild."
I then picked Karen up from the airport and after lunch we headed to a panel talk entitled Nevada’s Legalization of Casinos and the Rise of Reno as the “Biggest Little City”. Such great history which really began in 1931, with the legalization of gaming in Nevada and Harold's Club being established by the Smith family. Such history!!!
This is a photo from my family's archives. Wow, right?
Next stop was a panel called That Old Black Magic: Paranormal Suspense. What a diverse and interesting group of authoresses: Sandy Wright (moderator and Wicken High Priestess), Dänna Wilberg (who I met with last night), Margaret C. Morse and Eileen Magill. Who ever knew the paranormal could be so normal?
South Lake Tahoe superstar, Todd Borg, was delightfully interviewed by Catriona McPherson. I even got a shout out, in a way by Todd when he told the huge audience that I introduce his books by saying, "Todd's books would be exceptional guidebooks for Tahoe if it wasn't for the murders in them!" His interviewer, Catriona was amazing. We look forward to more of her during the conference!
A group of us then met up at Lee and Betsey's room (my Happy Hour dates from last night) for stories, wine and a whole lot of fun.
William Kent Krueger is an outstanding author and one of the big stars of this event. We were happy to spend time with him at this evening's Welcome Reception.
We ended the night sitting in the lobby sipping fine wine, conversing with authors and plotting our next escapades. Life is truly good.
