Hike. Volunteer. Sail.

On only our third full day back in Tahoe, we hit the Trifecta of Fun!

Our morning began early with a Van Sickle Bi-State Park hike. We need to get acclimated to the elevation (6,229' at lake level) gradually. This scenic hike is one of our favorites.

You have to love the view!
This is our TENTH summer in Tahoe and one of my favorite things to do, for a decade, has been volunteering as an ADA guide, helping disabled get to Emerald Bay.

While guests tour Vikingsholm Castle, I am an ambassador, answering questions and just being there when needed.
While Steve isn't volunteering with me this season, he came along as support.
After grabbing picnicking supplies, we met our sailing hosts, Steve and Cyndi, on the dock for early evening Lake fun.

“...this beginning motion, this first time when a sail truly filled and the boat took life and knifed across the lake under perfect control, this was so beautiful it stopped my breath...”― Gary Paulsen

Being carefree with Cyndi and Linda felt absolutely fabulous.

A Riverwalk, Lunch & SCRABBLE™

My planned connect with Karen was supposed to be spent doing Mail Art but the beautiful day, rumored wildflowers and the need to just be in nature, derailed us.

Karen lives really close to the Truckee River so we meandered along its shoreline, in search of nature. It was not a difficult search.

Most of the flowers, upon closer inspection, were being visited by all manner of insect.

How amazing to be out and about in Tahoe again.

And how fabulous it is to be doing what we love with those we love. Welcome to our Sierra Summer.

Physical Therapy... Finally!

One of my summer goals is to work towards a healthier me. Step #1 PT.

Because of the timing of my neck fracture and the fact that my PT should have begun right when COVID began, I did not get what I needed for being fully healed.
Enter Juliana at Barton Orthopedic & Wellness. "Barton’s state-of-the-art (26,000 sq. ft.) facility offers multi-specialty services including orthopedic surgeons, spine specialists, physical medicine & rehabilitation specialists, a sports performance team, and pain-management specialists. In addition to extensive experience and expertise with knee, shoulder, hip, hand and joint replacement, The Center also features the newest rehabilitation equipment and services such as physical & occupational therapy, injury recovery & prevention, pre & post-surgical therapy, and sports medicine rehabilitation."
I have been given new hope at becoming a better, improved me and that makes me pretty darn happy. Oh, and the view at Barton doesn't hurt, either. I 💗 South Lake Tahoe.

My View for 460 Miles...

Our northern migration to Lake Tahoe required us to caravan, with Steve leading the way. I thought I'd share my view for the ten hour long road trip.

What's funny is the fact that when I lagged behind, Steve slowed down. I later learned he thought that was as fast as I felt I could go (this is the longest drive I've done since breaking my neck almost two years ago). I thought he was driving conservatively so I hung back. While this made the trip longer than it needed to be, my sweet little Subaru averaged 44 mpg and I didn't have to fill up once!
As we got closer, we each became more and more giddy about finally going home!
I only glanced backward once. ONWARD.
Our Sierra Summer, spent by the lake, will be unforgettable. Giddy, indeed!
“You will never be completely at home again,
because part of your heart will always be elsewhere.
That is the price you pay for the richness
of loving and knowing people in more than one place.”
