Fête de la Musique in Laguna Beach

For those who don't know, Laguna Beach is a very special town for Steve and me. Our first date took place there, we were married there, and our boys spent their early years frolicking at Main Beach Park. We have incredible memories which we made there and today we made even more!

We came for the music yet arrived early enough to play tourist for a bit.
Check out this Subaru 360! Yes, it is a Subaru but not any Subaru, it was the first car the company manufactured.
The rear window sticker says, "Slow is all I know. You may pass me, but you won't outlast me!"
I have been to many classic car shows but this sighting is truly a first. I have a new item on my "wish list". Wow.
Some things are just so Laguna. This dog 'driving' the car is just one of many!

Okay, the reason we were there was for the Fête de la Musique. This day of dancing is based on an all-night celebration of music in France, first dreamt up and staged by an American musician working abroad at a radio station in the late 1970s and early 80s. The event takes place in various parts of the world each June, in anticipation of the coming solstice (held in over 600 cities in 200 countries). The free Laguna Beach celebration coincides with World Music Day in the spirit of all the music fans moving to the rhythm internationally.
And why a French festival in Laguna? Menton, France is one of Laguna's three sister cities! Very, very cool. Oui?
All throughout the town, music of all kinds was being played. Almost 40 bands were making people's toes tap (and various other parts move).
From 6-piece classic rock bands at the beach...

...to amazing guitarists rocking in front of stores.

While we didn't get to groove with The CoverUps Band due to a time crunch, we loved their vibe while just hanging out with them. Since the 80s are our favorite decade, we will find this group playing somewhere!
Even Elvis made an appearance!
We were enthralled by the brother-sister duo Sandro and Tamara Eristavi. I'm certain this video (make sure to listen until Sandro sings) will make you realize just how très merveilleux this French music festival was.
I love when we discover something purely by happenstance and it turns out to be unforgettable.

“Music gives a soul to the universe,
wings to the mind,
flight to the imagination,
and life to everything.”
