San Diego Zoo Safari Park...

Our friends, David and Karen, had two expiring tickets to this, the magical place I still call the Wild Animal Park*, and invited us to join them. We were giddy!

I thought it was the perfect opportunity to introduce my new Safari Hat, but Steve said he didn't think it provided enough sun protection.
Looking at this photo, I think he was wrong. Next time!

The new kid on the block was this Dwarf Mongoose. Did you know that the dwarf mongoose is the smallest carnivore in Africa? Even so, these tiny creatures have big personalities. These mammals tend to be incredibly curious and sociable, quite similar to their meerkat relatives. They live in groups ranging from 8 to 30 individuals called a pack or troop. You will often find these energetic animals playing and grooming one another or searching for tasty insects to eat. This little guy was pretty subdued as he was "acclimating to his new environment".
This Sand Cat was new to us, too. So cute. Karen would have put this kitty in her purse if she had the chance.
We always love the gorillas. It was very hot so they were just chillaxin' in the shade. They are still fun to watch, whatever they do.

This injured heron is a frequent visitor to the picnic area.
Being in the park, sans masks, with our great friends... the ice cream cone sums up precisely what we were feeling... JOY.

Quite often when I photograph something, a treasure is hidden within, not to be discovered until the image is uploaded and looked at on the big screen.
How beautiful is this dragonfly, adorning the water lily above? Wow.
Walkabout Australia always delights.
Walkabout Australia takes guests on a backcountry road through four types of Australian habitats: grassland, rain forest, wetlands and desert. Key features include a walk-through habitat where guests can see western gray kangaroos, red-necked wallabies,  Matschie’s tree kangaroos and so much more.

Isn't this southern cassowary incredibly interesting, a tad comical and a tiny bit scary?

Tourists!!!
The Tull Family Tiger Trail, a five-acre Sumatran tiger habitat, is one of those places we can't miss.

This giraffe is just two weeks old. I 💓 giraffes.

*The San Diego Zoo Safari Park opened in 1972 as the Wild Animal Park. This video is from opening day and is an interesting watch. We really love it here. It is 1,800 acres of preserving, breeding and educating. "For the benefit of all children and the young at heart!"

One of my friends just arrived in Uganda - she is going to see the gorillas. She has been to Africa 4 times. She loves it.
