Dogs, Hikes & Pizzas...

Our day began on the north side of the lake for the 10th Annual Tahoe Donner Humane Society's "Ididarun" fundraiser.

This puppy, Nikolai, won my heart.  Doesn't he look purposeful?
Dogs pulled covered wagon sleds, across a snow covered course, against the clock! This was a great spectating event.

Last year's winner was trying hard to hold on to his title.

All were rewarded handsomely for their efforts.

This pit bull/basset hound combo was the most unique in the group of 45 racers. In addition to looking cute and running fast, each contestant had to pull half of his weight in the sleds.
I am a sucker for pure bred bassets. Barney did not disappoint!
The times varied widely with the quickest being just over 2 seconds and the slowest taking almost a minute. Many of the dogs were surprised to find something trailing behind them. What a hysterical event to witness.
And a gorgeous setting to spend a Sunday afternoon.
On the way home, Bob and Jenny suggested a hike to the top of this amazing volcanic plug (a volcanic landform created when magma hardens within a vent on an active volcano).  Eagle Rock has a wonderful Washoe legend told about it that's worth reading.

At the top, we toasted our great day and enjoyed a stunning view.

Last stop was dinner and game playing at Vinny's Pizzeria.  Wow.  What a phenomenal day of fun.
