There are big ships and small ships. But the best ship of all is friendship...

My Monday was spent in the wonderful company of women.  I met Terri on line.  Okay, that sounds so strange, but it's true.  We bonded over the Navy for Moms chat room in August and have been kindred spirits ever since.  She drove down, from North Carolina, with her friend, Karen and Shana (first appeared on May 31) joined us.  Terri's son, Tyler, is in Navy aviation school and Shana is his girlfriend.  She is here doing an internship and we have delighted in her company on numerous occasions.  So it was off on a girl day!

No trip here is complete without a stroll through the City Market
which began nearly 220 years ago.  One of Charleston's most colorful relics has survived a tumultuous past, out lasting tornadoes, hurricanes, a major earthquake and devastation by fires and bombardment from without and within.  After our shopping, a necessary stop was made at the roof top bar Steve and I went to on Sunday night, just to enjoy the views of Charleston and cool our feet.

Lunch was at the same place Steve and I watched the sun set on our first night in Charleston, Fleet Landing.  Built in 1942 by the US Navy as a debarkation point for sailors, the building lay vacant after World War II and became the only waterfront restaurant I have found and the perfect place for the Navy ladies to dine.

We then went on an explore of the wrought iron patterns in the gates of Rainbow Row.  A wonderful souvenir from the City Market is jewelry that copies these exquisite patterns, in silver, for earrings and necklaces.  We went in search of the gates and fences depicted in the jewelry we bought.  It was a treasure hunt.

After saying our goodbyes, I picked up Steve and we met our friends, Julie and Steve (May 27th) at the wonderful restaurant, Lana's where we were treated to drinks followed by a dinner of great food and service.  We wished them "Bon Voyage" because they depart today for France and a three month boating adventure.  They live the life we would like to live when we grow up.  Their joie de vivre and their generosity is enviable.

We ended the evening at the cinema seeing two very different movies, "Killers" and "Get Him to the Greek".
