Heading home...
Our only full day with Kegan, in Charleston, was a pretty busy and exciting one! We began with a carriage ride...During the one-hour tour you will be experiencing 25 – 30 blocks of Charleston's historic downtown district. You will see houses, gardens, mansions, churches, and parks. You will hear about buildings, history, architecture, flora and people. Most importantly you will become one with all that Charleston has to offer the visitor. It was a great overview for Kegan's introduction to Charleston.
We then had a picnic lunch on the harbor followed by a boat tour and ride to Ft. Sumter. Decades of growing strife between North and South erupted in civil war on April 12, 1861, when Confederate artillery opened fire on this Federal fort in Charleston Harbor. Fort Sumter surrendered 34 hours later. Union forces would try for nearly four years to take it back. History lessons can be extremely fun...
Dinner was at Anson Restaurant ... a favorite Charleston restaurant with Southern architecture, elegant interior decor and gracious hospitality...Anson's cuisine and ambiance reflect worldly sophistication and Lowcountry lifestyle. A fabulous menu featuring - Shrimp and Grits, Lowcountry Seafood and Chops, using ingredients available daily from Charleston's fishing fleet and local farms. Gourmet Magazine writes: "Charleston's heritage is an inspiration; and it helps explain why the restaurant called Anson is so successful serving food that mixes tradition with culinary fashion...a meal of historic respect as well as bold invention." It was the perfect end to our extraordinary visit to this amazing city.
We leave tomorrow morning. Click path to see our meandering road trip home...

we had longer ways to go. But no matter, the road is life."
