Conversations with Authors...

Book Passages, a Bay Area bookstore I like, has found a way to continue gathering together book lovers—even as we stay home to mitigate the spread of coronavirus.

"Beginning today, we’ll be coming together at the end of each week with great authors and thinkers to share ideas and to celebrate our community. These live, online sessions won’t be book readings so much as intimate conversations—about what it means to be living through these times, and what it means to stay connected to the people and the ideas that bind us."
Today's guest was Anne Lamott, in conversation with her son, Sam Lamott. Anne is the author of seven novels and has also written several bestselling books of nonfiction, including the classic book on writing- Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life. This was a unique way to be connected, while separate, and I learned a great deal about this writer, her process and a different kind of life. Fun stuff from the comfort of my family room.

"Hope begins in the dark,
the stubborn hope that if you just show up
and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come.
You wait and watch and work:
you don't give up."
-Anne Lamott
