"DENISE": Lust, Violence & the Struggle for Power Amid the Oil Fields of Texas

Years ago, while shopping in an antique store in Oatman, AZ, I found this book and had to own it. Growing up, it was hard to find anything personalized with my name on it, though according to babycenter.com Denise was #30 on the list of most popular names in 1962.

As our sons grew up, Denise stayed on the highest shelf in our bookcase. Is it any wonder why? From the back cover:

"Sex was her only weapon... A rapidly crumbling family fortune, a tradition of power, lust and booze, and a world of predatory men were only some of the elements that threatened Denise's survival. Young, blonde and attractive, she quickly found that her body was the only thing men respected. Raised in a household where overnight fortunes and promiscuity went hand in hand, she left a trail of ambitious men behind her as she struggled to hold the remnants of her family together and deal with the growing fires of her forbidden love. Oil is the backdrop as Edward Hunt spills out a tale of passion and intrigue as big as Texas itself."

This circa 1977 book has been in storage for a decade. After reading some snippets, I think it needs to go back there. I guess not all things with your name on it are good things. Wild stuff.

Bwhahahahahahah!! OM! What a hoot! Those were indeed all the rage back then and everyone loved them and totally ate them up. Hard to imagine today but those dime store books were in big demand. I am guilty myself of reading more then a few LOL!

I think they eventually did a book with all the popular names so teenage girls like us would by them. I know these are totally cheesy and campy but I have to admit I miss the days where everything didn't have to be politically correct and a little cheesiness was accepted and encouraged xo

Ps- the story and plot was ALWAYS about forbidden love! Remember The Thornbirds!??? LOL!
