Social Distancing at The Beach...

Our friend, Brady, lives in Oceanside and told us we would be safe strolling the California shore. She was right and it was just what we needed.

Everyone we encountered swerved out of our path, with obvious kindness and a mutual need to be at the sea.

We even had a guest on our picnic blanket. I guess gulls didn't get the message about staying 6' away.
What a different view of a typical Spring Break in SoCal.
Everywhere we strolled, we came upon hundreds of Coquina clams.
These marine invertebrates inhabit sandy beaches along coasts worldwide and typically measures only about 0.4 to 1 inch in length. Its shell is wedge-shaped and varies widely in color from white, yellow, and pink to blue and mauve.
Coquina clams are very active; they migrate up and down wave-washed beaches with the tide and can reburrow between each wave. They have short siphons and feed on suspended plant material and detritus. In addition, they are edible and are used in broths and chowder (if food supply gets desperate, we know where to go).
This is how we have seen these clams before- shells discarded, looking like a butterfly.
Oh man, we even discovered a live Sand Dollar (sea urchin).
Note how conscientious everyone was to stay healthy?

We were only at the beach for a brief, mental health break. We followed all COVID-19 protocols. With this excursion, we feel ready to shelter-in-place for a while more.

"When anxious, uneasy and bad thoughts come, I go to the sea,
and the sea drowns them out with its great wide sounds,
cleanses me with its noise, and imposes a rhythm
upon everything in me that is bewildered and confused."
-Rainer Maria Rilke

You needed this! Everyone needs to walk along side the ocean and listen to the power of the waves, and forget about everything else.
You went at a time too, the pier is now CLOSED, the beaches are too (except for walking). So if you don't linger (ahem, stop to take pictures) you should be fine... I am glad you came to my neck of the woods! Speaking of necks, I like your black brace.
