Alaska Highway South...
The great explore of our 49th State has ended. We deem it a great success. Once back, I'll do a thorough trip summary. In the meantime, we are still enjoying the journey.
This trip has allowed us to kiss in some pretty cool spots. Here we are at the 141st Meridian. Behind us is a 20-foot wide swatch, that is 600 miles long, (cut from 1904 to 1920) to mark the border.
I appreciate re-purposing. Beaver Creek's Our Lady of Grace Mission was built in 1961 from a salvaged Quonset hut left over from highway construction in 1942.
I'm a sucker for The World's Largest _____. When I read that this is one of the Yukon's oldest settlements (1904) and home to the World's Largest Gold Pan, we knew we had to stop.
One of my stated goals, from the start, was to see a grizzly in the wild. When we happened upon this guy, we thought he might have been hit by a car. Nope! According to the government official, who also stopped, the bears here eat locoweed and promptly fall asleep in the sun. This bear raised his head, sniffed at us, and fell right back into a blissful slumber. Hysterical!
These are his back paws... so cute.
This was a drive of the unexpected. We even observed a hillside of Dall Sheep.
For the entire 350 miles traversed today, the horizon was decorated with glaciers and peaks that were just stunning.
Oh man, the view is as stunning coming as it is going!

I was chuckling looking at Steve with his hands in his pockets for the kiss and imagined you setting the timer and running back in place. At the end of the trip, I want to see a line-up of all the (hopefully) unused bear spray.
