My Current Read...

Lionel Shriver's book Should We Stay or Should We Go: A Novel is one of THOSE books. Probably not for everyone, but I couldn't put it down. I read snippets to Steve so often that when I was out, he would pick it up and read it, too.

I thought this review, by Brock Perks, was right on. "Shriver's subversive genius at work again, delivering an unsettling but hilarious meditation on various possibilities awaiting the elderly in the early 21st century. Little here provides comfort, but then, providing comfort is not the job of an honest writer. I loved it, despite staring (now fixedly) down the barrel of chronological seniority."

Amazon describes it as, "Both timely and timeless, Lionel Shriver addresses serious themes—the compromises of longevity, the challenge of living a long life and still going out in style—with an uncannily light touch. Weaving in a host of contemporary issues, from Brexit and mass migration to the coronavirus, Shriver has pulled off a rollicking page-turner in which we never have to mourn perished characters, because they’ll be alive and kicking in the very next chapter."

Steve and I are both paying attention to the aging process and thinking about what will we do WHEN. While Ms. Shriver goes 'out there' at times, but the dialog this novel provokes was worth the read for us. I thoroughly loved this book. Wow.
