Margaritaville South Lake Tahoe is Open!

I had been pretty relentless trying to discover when South shore's newest resort was going to host a ribbon cutting. My sleuthing paid off handsomely. Steve, Cyndi, and I were there today for the absolutely awesome, unforgettable party!

"Today, Margaritaville, the global lifestyle brand, opened Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe. This is the brand’s first lodging location in a ski destination and the only all-suite resort in the South Lake Tahoe basin. Nestled at the base of Tahoe’s famed Heavenly Mountain Resort in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the 399-room Margaritaville Resort Lake Tahoe will be the ultimate year-round destination for those seeking a slice of paradise amidst the natural beauty of Lake Tahoe."
It was certainly our ultimate destination for today and everyone truly outdid themselves. With gracious employees, delicious food, live steel drums, photo opportunities galore, and even the signature Margaritas, this Grand Opening was grand, indeed!

Even the Who's Who were on hand for photos. Pictured with us is SLT's City Manager, Joe Irvin (who got the dress code memo) and Bob Jensch, Managing Director of Davidson Resorts which will helm the resort's operations.
John Rice, General Manager of Sierra-at-Tahoe, inadvertently dressed thematically. He told me his shirt was the one he wore traditionally for Christmas and was happy he fit in so well with the Island vibe. Though he vocalized his hope for snow! Fun stuff.
When I saw people attentive to this gentleman, I sat beside him and asked his name and why was he so important. Turns out the VIP on David's tag stands for Very Important Parrothead. He was invited to the event because of his 50 year devotion to Jimmy Buffett. He was great company and we loved reminiscing with him.

After enthusiasm evoking speeches, there was the unveiling!
Hmmm. What could it be? The suspense...
"I blew out my flip-flop
Stepped on a pop-top
Broke my leg twice I had to limp on back home
But there's booze in the blender
And soon it will render
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on"

The signature 13-foot flip flop's color is inspired by Emerald Bay.
Paula Peterson was there so I know her article on SouthTahoeNow.com will be thorough. What a totally incredible event for our little mountain town.
Fins Up!
I know BLOWN OUT FLIP FLOP (Sculptural Casting 2015 Artist: Anonymous) will be featured in many instagrams. "The acclaimed artist, whose more contemplative works appear in museum collections around the world, (often featuring his signature sun baked canvas' covered in oil), has gone to the beach this season. He prefers to remain anonymous allowing this first work in the emerging genre of POP-top-ART to speak for itself." Hysterical.
This day felt like history in the making. I'm sure Jimmy was smiling down at us with his shaker of salt in hand! What a morning of pride for South Lake Tahoe.
