Our day of wonderful things French...
We took an excursion to the town of Grasse, a famous place of French perfume and history.
Towards the middle of the 16th century, Catherine de Medici, who loved so much to surround herself with strange decors and rare luxuries, grew weary of exotic perfumes. Having heard that on the Provençal shores of the Mediterranean the most fragrant flowers grew, she commanded one of her scientists, the Florentine Tombarelli, to transform through his art those wild petal into precious essences.

At the time, Grasse was a city famous for its tanneries. The tanners of Grasse, to get rid of the odor of the leather, used the natural essences of the region, hence the perfume was born here.
This tour was incredibly interesting and one day I will blog all about it.  We learned so much.
Lunch was at my favorite place, Odrey's patio.
This is Odrey's "new" car and she is very proud of it.  Can you see it just behind her?
The day was exceptional and our exceptional hosts planned for a boat ride to the
Île Sainte-Marguerite,  a beautifully wooded island and is most famous for its fortress prison (the Fort Royal), in which the so-called Man in the Iron Mask was held in the 17th century.  It afforded beautiful views of Cannes and an interesting location to wander.
Dinner at 'home' concluded our fantastic day.  It was too brief of a visit but there are promises of future visits that I know will become realities!
