Warning about pickpockets...

While we spent a reasonable time at the US Embassy in Rome, getting our notarial services done, we met a nice couple who were there for a much different reason.

After two weeks in Italy, the man let down his guard.  He took their passports and credit cards out of his hanging, under shirt document holder, and put it in the velcro pocket of his cargo pants.  Somewhere on a busy bus or crowded train, their whole world changed.  They sat in the waiting room of the Embassy trying to get money wired from America in order to get new passports and finish their wonderfully planned holiday.  We all offered them money but they assured us they would be fine.  It is a cautionary tale that needs to be told.  Never let your guard down!
