Not "just" camping...another cultural lesson!
When we first arrived in Umbria, we would see motorhomes parked alongside the road. With our love of "free" camping, we thought it was an idyllic countryside to just pull off and spend the night.
Then one day, while we were going to a neighboring town for lunch with Laurie and Norma, Laurie informed us that the motorhomes were not for camping, but were actually mobile "houses of ill repute"... Yes, prostitution. The 'ladies' sit in the front seat, waiting for customers.
"In Italy, as in the great majority of Western countries, prostitution itself is not a crime," said the Equal Opportunity Minister, Mara Carfagna, a former showgirl and topless model (the title and her ex-profession make me laugh).
Needless-to-say, I will never look at a roadside RV again in the same way and I will never park alongside the road and sit in the driver's seat. You just never know who may knock.

You have to wonder what kind of clientele you are attracting with such a rundown vehicle. For that jalopy you couldn't possibly ask for much money as a working girl...
