Pissignano per il Mercatino dell'Antiquariato
Pissignano is another little town that really is famous for its "First Sunday of the Month Market" hence our visit there today.
Anna Wood, the woman in the first photo with me, was one of the founders of this market, the third largest in the country. More than 250 exhibitors and private sellers are involved. Pissignano, a small village its history is as rich as its olive oil, is a perfect way to spend a blustery day... a stroll through the stalls and an Umbrian lunch of bruschetta, roasted sausages and chick pea soup! Sono abbastanza soddisfatto!
Apart from being the most unique source of souvenirs and consolation gifts for the friends you left behind, outdoor markets are some of the most interesting places in Italy. Almost all of them offer a collection of items that ranges from near-worthless knick knacks to priceless works of art, from the ancient to the post-post modern. Some are specialized but all welcome visitors, who are encouraged to have fun bargaining in English, Italian, sign language or any combination of the above.
