A movie studio in Umbria...

We awoke to a clear, crisp 29 degree day and decided it was a good day for a drive through Umbria.  We went to discover something new and we delighted in what we found.  Around a bend we came upon Cinecittà.  The gate to "Cinema City" was wide open and we decided to drive in for an explore.

The now defunct steel mill, while definitely not Universal Studios, was rather interestingly industrial and very deserted... perfect for two American tourists to trespass in and take photos.

Thanks to hard work and dedication of the truly dynamic and brilliant Oscar award-winning Roberto Benigni, the factory infrastructure has been renovated and upgraded into a inspired Dream Factory, giving life to and creating a new highly impressive centre attraction for the European Cinematographic Industry.

Visually stunning films such as Roberto Benigni's Life is Beautiful, Pinocchio and The Tiger in the Snow have all been filmed here.

As if we needed another reason to love our Italian town, Spoleto Minister of Culture happens to be Vincenzo Cerami, the screenplay author of Benigni's Oscar-winning film La vita è bella (Life is Beautiful).
