Our last day in the Olive Trees... La Raccolta!

I feel we look like little italiani in the first photo.  I guess that's what two months in Umbria does to you!

We spent a beautiful, sunny-at-times day at Eve's helping with the last of her olive harvest.  She will take them all to be pressed on Monday.
Each time we helped la raccolta, Steve or I would ask each other, "Did you ever think you would be standing here, in Italy, picking olives?"  We have loved every minute of it:  the hard work, the warm sunshine, the delicious lunches on the terrace and the interesting stories Eve would share with us.

An olive fact:  25% of the olives grown in the world are grown in Italy and 350 varieties of olive trees are cultivated throughout the country.  I think Eve must have at least 20 different types on her property, if not more.  Each tree was a unique character and we both feel so fortunate for having had the opportunity to experience such an Italian tradition.
