Romanian Fables...

Our morning was spent in the library, expanding our international "horizons" while learning about Romanian fables.  Our friend, Ioana translated Ion Creangă's children's stories into the Italian book Il Mondo Incantato:  Favole Romene (Creangă was the main figure in 19th century Romanian literature).

Ioana read in Romanian.  The children were very attentive, listening to a completely different language.  The Italian translation was read by a delightfully animated storyteller.  Both shared one of the fables to an entranced group of young students.  It is always memorable to listen to children laugh and rewarding to see them learn about other cultures.

The book was published by CESVOL, a Voluntary Services group that provides support services and community help.
  Italy has the largest number of Romanian immigrants, of any country, and by introducing to children the rich stories, the hope is for understanding, harmony and acceptance.

Let us have but one end in view, the welfare of humanity;
and let us put aside all selfishness
in consideration of language, nationality, or religion.
-John Comenius, 17th century philosopher
