Author Matthew Quirk & More

If you're a California reader, I recommend you sign up for Adventures by the Book, created in 2011 by Founder and CEO Susan McBeth (the name behind some of the biggest literary events in San Diego and beyond). Susan couldn’t escape the feeling that traditional book signings were missing something. Shouldn’t an author’s personal presence be used to create a more unique experience? She launched ABTB to connect authors and their books with the local reading community through custom designed, interactive, and what she likes to call “multi-sensorial,” literary events. I am so hooked!

When I saw the offering for today, Steve was hooked, too. New York Times bestselling author Matthew Quirk continues to deliver high-stakes thrillers in his new book, Inside Threat, which imagines a White House under attack from the inside and follows the loyal agent singularly capable of saving the country. In fact, his books are so exciting that Netflix produced a ten-episode series based on his previous novel, The Night Agent.
Steve and I are huge fans of the TV show, The Night Agent, but I had to admit I knew nothing about its author. Oh man, we certainly do now after today.
After a screening of the pilot episode, Mr. Quirk came on stage and shared so much about himself. What a very cool guy. Humble, funny, engaging, interesting, and incredibly entertaining, we could have listened to him for hours.
He explained his writing trajectory, his process for attaining his goals, and how his novel became Netflix's #1 show last year. WOW.

A very thorough Q & A followed, showcasing more of Matthew Quirk's appeal.

Dinner was al fresco at Oceanside's Local Tap House. This night seemed to sum up Southern California for me. Steve's cold beer...
...my drool worthy Pecan-Crusted Scottish Salmon (Sweet Potato Smash, Bing Cherry Glaze, Crispy Brussels Sprouts, Candied Pecans, and Baby Chives). Oh man, I'm ready to go back.
Our dessert was my favorite... Eye Candy! You can't beat a beach sunset.
