A Misplaced Letter Delivered

At a recent coffee date with Suzanne, this unopened letter was delivered to me.

At some point this square card was returned to her due to needing more postage.
The total would have been 45¢. Boy things have changed. Today, standard-sized, rectangular envelope stamps start at $0.68. Square, oversized, or unusually shaped envelope stamps start at $1.12 (I'm not complaining about the current price. The United States Postal Service is still the best deal in the world).

With the postmark difficult to read (until enlarged above), Suzanne was eager for me to reveal the date on the note. Yes, this postal treasure has been 'kept safe' in her desk for almost 22 years. This is an example of "better late than never!" What a welcomed treasure, indeed. The contents gave her the opportunity to reminisce about special people and unique events in her life which happened in 2002. It also held wonderful words reminding me of why we have been friends after all these years. Oh, the gift of a letter!
Okay, I just had to share this image of Suzanne and our 37-year-old son on his first day of 6th grade (August, 1998). Suzanne was his exceptional teacher. How many people have photographic proof of the moment a friendship begins? This photo is ours. What fun!
