Art at the Cannon Gallery (Again)

Founded in 1999, Carlsbad's William D. Cannon Art Gallery’s mission is to promote, interpret and present to the community the art of emerging, mid-career and established artists from culturally diverse Southern California and to showcase the cultural creativity and art from other parts of the world. The curatorial focus of the gallery includes painting, sculpture, photography, print-making, mixed-media, folk art, design and installation works. When anywhere nearby, we pop in. We are never disappointed.

The current exhibit is titled Artists Together: Today and Tomorrow. It showcases the talents of MiraCosta College faculty and students. "This exhibition contains a wide spectrum of media, including painting, printmaking, photography, installation, furniture and ceramics. From bright abstracts to painted sculptures, the exhibition is certain to have something to stimulate everyone’s interest and satisfy their spirit."

I enjoyed this painting, Keep Clear by Kat Bauer, because it was a very familiar scene from my youth. We frequented the Balboa Island ferry often over the years. What a fun memory evoker.

This quote, by John Lubbock, sums up the power of art in a beautiful way, "Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness. It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As the sun colors flowers, so does art color life."
