Independence Day Pt. 1: The Parade
We began our country's 246th birthday lining Lake Tahoe Blvd. thoroughly enjoying South Lake Tahoe's Annual Parade.
How could we resist this? "The 4th of July parade will highlight a number of honorary guests as well as a formal military flyover courtesy of the 152nd Airlift Wing from the Nevada Air National Guard."There is something about a parade that makes me feel like a child again.
The theme, honoring our veterans, made me teary. What a tribute. In addition their rides were very cool vintage cars.
I especially loved this Thing because that was my car in college... the one that got away!
Oh, and the live music ROCKED. We only wished they had paused longer.
The first responders were represented in full force: loud (sirens blaring) and proud! There were big cheers for all of them.
Some of it just felt so small town. Here are the El Dorado pageant queens riding on haybales. So dang fun.
Even our refuse company participated!
Durkin Tree Service had us all impressed.
And what's a forest parade without Smokey Bear?
The new kid in town, Flapstick Pub, had the theme of Drink Local, Putt Tipsy.
I was offered a seat on the Lake Tahoe Historical Society's float. Maybe next year.
We saw several friends participating in the festivities. Here are Steve and Cyndi showing off their biking skills.
I loved this foursome. I'd so do this.
And you have to love their motto printed on the life preserver: Forever Young. Yes, that's what a parade makes one feel! What a perfect Lake Tahoe Day. Now it's off for a nap to be awake for the 9:45 PM fireworks extravaganza.
