Charleston: Shrimp & Bluegrass...

What better way to start our day than at the 40th Annual Lowcountry Shrimp Festival in the little, historic town of McClellanville. This small fishing village, who has traditionally derived its livelihood from the sea and coastal marshes by fishing, shrimping and oystering, knows how to throw a party!

This place rolled out the welcome mat so we could experience the Festival and the very important Blessing of the Fleet. Tons of local shrimp, two bands, over 45 local artisans, face painting, and a whole lot of community spirit made the morning exceptional.

After lunch at home, we walked two miles to the Über cool Palmetto Brewing and their 1st Annual Brewgrass Festival.

Sitting in their courtyard, listening to fabulous tunes while celebrating great beer and bluegrass... man what a way to end a day.
Charleston continues to surprise and delight. What an incredible town.

"I don't think you ever think of a big city as sweet or community,
but there are cities that I think of as charming
and particular and interesting cities.
I live in one now, Charleston."

So sad we did not get to share that fun day, but we had to make magic for our Mothers Day!!

The photo of the pier looked so beckoning. It made me want to take a stroll. I'm not a huge shrimp fan, but it looked like you had hushpuppies on your plate of which I am a HUGE fan. I've been known to double fist wine glasses, but Steve has me beat with three tastes of beer. I bow to him.
