The Longaberger Basket Building...

I am a huge fan of mimetic architecture, a form of novelty architecture where the building is created to look like the product sold. When we stumbled upon this amazing structure, I yelled, "Stop the car!"

Today, I received Atlas Obscura's article The Strange Second Life of Ohio's 'Big Basket' Building so naturally, I had to share.
The Big Basket, which opened in 1997, is a scaled-up version of (the once famous) Longaberger’s signature Medium Market Basket, only 160 times larger. For those who don't remember these very expensive baskets, they were all the rage. Though the company closed its doors for good in 2018 and has no plans to return, Longaberger is still a household name in Ohio. At its peak in 2000, Dave Longaberger’s company employed more than 8,200 people.

The building has been saved and by this time next year, it will be reopening as a luxury hotel. Hmmm, I might be yelling, "Stop the car!" yet again, if our travel plans find us back in Ohio. Fun stuff.
