Tourist Season Officially Begins...

At 8:05 AM we were at Reno Airport gathering our friends, David and Karen, from SoCal for five days of a Sierra Sojourn for them and a whole lot of fun for all of us.

One of our favorite stops is the historic town of Genoa, Nevada's oldest settlement (1851).
After strolling through some shops, we got in the car and drove off when I noticed the Old Genoa Bar was open.  Steve turned the car around and we went in 'just for photos'.  But at 10:22 AM we were compelled to have a drink.  One cannot enter Nevada's Oldest Thirst Parlor without imbibing!
I have spoken of this unique Saloon many times.  Built in 1853, thirty years later it was well known as a "gentleman's saloon" back then and it was "kept in first-class style in every particular way." A place where everyone from Governors to movie stars drank and gambled.
When Raquel Welch visited the bar, she was asked to leave her bra. She agreed but insisted that all the other bras be taken down -and they were! Her's is the black leopard print hanging on the antlers (right of photo) though it's so dusty now, you can't really tell.
Jane Beckenham was in Tahoe because her husband wanted to be a part of the 50th Anniversary celebration of the Early Ford V8 Club.
I am so glad we learned of this car show.  There were over 300 Fords from the years 1932 to 1953.  David delighted in posing with his same year 'model'.
We could have ogled all day, but naps called to all of us.
Our friends, Steve and Cyndi, generously share their sailboat with us and this afternoon sail was spectacular.  Holding on tightly when the wind arose, dining and drinking in style when the calm set in.  What a ride!
A tourist remains an outsider throughout his visit;
but a sailor is part of the local scene from the moment he arrives.
