The photos don't do the Dolomites justice...
After a wonderful night's sleep in the cutest of the hotels in Castelrotto, Hotel Zum Turm, we headed out for an explore of this incredible part of Italy. The Dolomites have been called the most beautiful mountains on earth and they certainly are the most dramatic.
Our photos don't capture the majesty of these great cliffs. They were pushed to their 11,000 foot height by the tectonic-plate action of Africa slowly smashing into Europe. When one gazes skyward, that fact is difficult to believe.
We hiked in the Alpine meadows. We picnicked in the shadows of giant peaks. We even napped in a snow dotted field. We are in awe of the beauty here.
