Castles and Madness in Germany...

While planning the afternoon, we looked at the map and discovered how close Germany was to where we were so after a quick 'supply' stop at the grocery, we headed north to learn about Ludwig II (Ludwig Friedrich Wilhelm)...a man who has become one of the most legendary figures in Bavarian and German history; a history full of legendary figures.

Neuschwanstein Castle (1869) is one of the most famous castles in the world — and one we had wanted to see for years.  Like its builder, it is one of the most misunderstood- a structure of contrast, irony, mystery and beauty.

The entire town surrounding this beautiful creation is dreamlike.  Disney's Sleeping Beauty's Castle is patterned on Ludwig's masterpiece.  In fact, the town itself feels of Disneyland.  It is very apparent where Walt Disney got his inspiration.  However, this is real life...in Germany.  Even just breathing reminds me of the 'Happiest Place on Earth' as the fragrance of schneeballen (fried dough balls) lingers in the mountain air.  I love the mysterious way our days unfold, and this one was amazing.

not a problem to be solved."

I thought that the Alcazar castle in Segovia, Spain was the castle that inspired Disney. http://www.castles.nl/eur/es/seg/seg.html
We need to get to the bottom of this mystery...

Porn to Disney. Somehow it only seems fitting that both should be discovered in Austria and Germany. Did you say fried dough balls, as in donuts? I'll take a dozen.
