Poste Italiane... a unique experience

A visit to the post office here is very different than in America.  Upon entering, you must take a number (prenotazione) for one of three very different services.  It's important to make certain you have the correct category before waiting for too long.

Your number appears on a large, lit board telling you at which sportello you will receive help.  It is a very short period between when your number is called and when they will move on to the next customer, so one must pay close attention.

While corrispondenza via Poste Italiane is somewhat expensive and rather slow, the people have been very helpful and rather patient each time we've been there.  In addition, everything I've mailed has arrived at the destination, eventually.

Poste Italiane is the leading operator in Italy in the postal services area...  It is an innovative, competitive operator in the area of financial and payment services: post office current accounts, post office savings accounts, post office interest-bearing bonds, national and international money orders, currency exchange services.

Hmmm...sounds like the DMV! Are the workers disgruntled at all? Hahahaha.
Good thing you speak Italian! As a foreigner I am not sure that I would figure that process out!
