Friday market...
Every Friday, Spoleto comes alive with its Market Place.  We have had great success here.  A beautiful sweater dress for me.  Proper Italian boots for Steve and a very fashionable turtleneck that helped him through some of our colder days.  Today we were shopping for flowers.
We are enthralled with the design of these "made for market" trucks.
While on the flight from home on Alitalia, I was served orange juice truly the color of blood.  There are three types of blood oranges.  The one from Italy is the Tarocco. The name is thought to be derived from an exclamation of wonder expressed by the farmer who was shown this fruit by its discoverer. It is perhaps the sweetest and most flavorful of the three types. The Tarocco is one of the world's most popular oranges because of its sweetness and juiciness. It has the highest Vitamin C content of any orange variety grown in the world.  It is easy to peel, seedless and one of my favorite  Italian discoveries thus far!
I have no idea what this tree is but I fell in love with it's velvety soft explosions of yellow.
How can someone not delight in a truck full of cheese?

The tree is a Mimosa (Acacia Dealbata) completely different than the ones we have in California. Nonetheless, the sight of a fully grown Mimosa tree in Italy at around the beginning of March, with its sea of yellow blooms is nothing short of breathtaking and is a clear sign of spring’s arrival, especially after a dull winter. Bear in mind that yellow is not a particularly easy color to incorporate in most planting schemes but in spring, in the glorious Mediterranean sunshine and with a sea of daffodils underneath – even yellow can work in Italian gardens!

Awe, I want to go to this farmer's market!
I love blood oranges, and had no idea there were three types. I hope they are in season in summer!
But if nothing else I know the cheese will be. :)
How do you like Italian cheese? Do you taste a difference?

Hi Denise! I hope your wrist is better.
Yes the tree is a mimosa, they are very popular in the gardens of the French Riviera, and close to Cannes there is a wild "mimosa forest" that blooms in February -- beautiful. When we moved to Calfornia, I went everywhere looking for a mimosa, and did not find any. The closest would be the one with fuzzy pink ball-shape flowers. And also the jacaranda is of the mimosa family.

In friendship,
Odile
