All roads lead to Rome...and IKEA
Our friend, Francesca, has just moved into a large apartment in Spoleto and needed to get some items that only IKEA carries, as did we (along with the fact that I was hankering for Polpette di carne- their delicious meatballs). So this morning we did a 75 mile, each way, roadtrip to Roma.
Even though most IKEAs are quite similar, one can not help but be acutely aware that one is in Italy. How fun to eat gelato from a self-serve machine... you are given a cone and a gettone (token). It was a unique and delicious shopping experience.
Since Francesca doesn't have a car here in Italy, she gleefully embraced her shopping list and filled the Ford to the brim, along with strapping an item on the roof. On the way home, we were the "talk" of the gas station as the attendants ogled the car from California and its capacity to hold stuff. It was an interesting adventure we will no doubt repeat again soon.

I am surprised to see they still had meatballs (did they taste the same?) yet they had a gelato machine...
I wish there were gelato machines here! How was it?
What a fun field trip!

Hi this is Mark from Fort Collins! I finally got around to checking your blog which looks like lots of fun. I was wondering, as I read about your car from California, what it was like to get your car insured etc. Our experience in Sicily was a nightmare which hopefully was not the case for you and Steve.
Best wishes.
We need an IKEA here in Charleston! We are FINALLY getting a Trader Joe's this summer! I can hardly wait!
