Tahoe: A Novel Of Power, Money & Sex

While volunteering for set-up at the Friends of the Library book sale, I stumbled upon this literary gem and now regret I didn't purchase it.

"Glamorous, exciting Tahoe... where anything and everything can happen... from love to murder!"
Tahoe, written by prolific author Dorothy Dowdell in 1977, was published by Playboy Press. In the 1970s, Playboy Press Paperbacks, a division of the popular magazine, entered the romance publishing field with blockbuster bodice rippers. However, their success in the genre was short-lived.
How intriguing is this? "TAHOE -a place of tantalizing contrasts. It whispers like a breeze and jangles like a slot machine. It offers wealth and fame but leaves you broke and broken. It promises love but delivers loneliness... ...unless you're lucky!"
And what a plot! What characters! ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN AT STARR'S TAHOE RESORT... SHOWCASE FOR THE BEAUTIFUL AND TALENTED; GATHERING PLACE OF THE RICH, THE FAMOUS, AND THE INFAMOUS; ARENA FOR THE POWERFUL, THE GREEDY, AND THE CORRUPT...
BARRETT STARR: Beautiful and ambitious. To become her uncle's heir meant more than love.
JUSTIN STARR: Gambling czar, self-made millionaire. He bought social acceptance through marriage.
LEA TURNER: Poor girl turned superstar. Her triumphant homecoming was marred by a vicious threat from the past.
JUDITH DAVENPORT: Daughter of the lieutenant governor. She was afraid to face her father with the news of her scandalous divorce.
OTTO SCHROEDER: Bent on revenge, he plotted vindictive schemes that left no one untouched.
And here is the author, Dorothy Dowdell. The old adage, "You can't judge a book by its cover" is certainly true of Mrs. Dowdell. Her numerous accomplishments, during her 97 years, included graduation from the University of California, Berkeley, president of PEO, of which she was a 73 year member, and a teacher in Sacramento Unified School District for 14 years. In addition, she was an accomplished author of 27 books plus numerous articles and short stories, a past president of two chapters of the California Writers Club, and the recipient of the Jack London Award. Seven of her education based books were written in collaboration with her late husband, Dr. Joseph Dowdell. Wow. What a woman. Now I really wished I had purchased Tahoe.
