A Return to Himmel Haus

It has been years since we dined in this quaint German restaurant, which opened our first summer as Tahoans (2012). Steve and Laura are big fans and made the trek up from Minden to partake in the unique atmosphere and the culinary delights.

Himmel Haus (Sky House) is located at the base of Heavenly and is the former Christiana Inn, opened in the mid-1960s and most likely the city's oldest bar.  Tahoe history abounds.
Housed within its walls are some cool historical facts. One of the busboys at the Christiana was John Clendenin, the two-time World Freestyle Champion (1973 and 1974). After skiing all day, Clendenin and the boys would knock back beers and cause a good ruckus at the Christiana.

The song, Sara, was written by Jefferson Starship's Mickey Thomas about his wife, whom he met at the Christiana Inn. In addition, it was where the band, Tower of Power, discovered its keyboard player, Roger Smith.
Dinner was certainly German and deliciously flavorful.
Sharing it with old friends (Steve met them years before he met me) made the night exceptional.

I suspect the directions on this door are way more confusing after consuming some of Himmel Haus' stout beers. Hysterical. It is always fun to revisit history over beer and good company.  Zum Wohl!
