Evacuated Tahoe Again

Due to the smoke we endured, and the new ash we discovered on our car, we packed it up and headed south.

When we left, the sky was blue and we thought we had acted too rashly, then Jenny sent me these photos of the smoke filling the sky.
These are not clouds, this is smoke and this is not sunset, this was taken in the morning.
Unbeknownst to us, the Caldor Fire erupted overnight, only 45 miles from South Lake Tahoe.

The California Highway Patrol said that if you're planning to leave South Lake Tahoe, you should go now.

"Please plan accordingly. Leave South Lake Tahoe as soon as possible. Use alternate routes such as SR-89 to I-80 or US-50 to I-395."

CHP clarified that South Lake Tahoe is not under evacuation and the closure is due to flames about 30 miles as the crow flies southwest of the lake's southern tip.

The Caldor Fire broke out Saturday in the El Dorado National Forest and grew wildly Monday and Tuesday because of shifting winds, hot temperatures and bone-dry conditions. A horrifying beast, the blaze tore through remote rugged terrain, reaching the community of Grizzly Flats where officials said an unknown number of structures were destroyed. On Tuesday, flames were pushing toward Pollock Pines near Highway 50.
