Tahoe East Shore Trail...
We have been trying to explore this new trail, opened in 2019, yet never had the chance. Today, we dipped our toe in but plan to return in the summer to explore more thoroughly.
Even before the first line was drawn on a map in 1988, residents and visitors of North Lake Tahoe have been dreaming of a trail that provides a safer alternative for cyclists and beach goers near the scenic East Shore.Access for All: The new Tahoe East Shore Trail offers a 3-mile long, 10-foot wide paved path that meets the American Disability Act standards to make certain that everyone can participate whether walking, rolling, running, or riding. And now that Social Distancing is here, this wide path is perfect.
...And incredibly scenic!
The Trail offers 11 beach access points for a cool, refreshing mid-trail swim, including safer and easier access to the popular Hidden Beach. Bike racks along the path offer a secure place to lock up a bike or stroller. Very, very cool.
And if that wasn't enough, there are 16 vista points that offer beautiful rest stops to get off the path and enjoy the views. I was impressed by the inscriptions, written by vista point donors, on their Tahoe-shaped plaques. The one I'm standing by reads, "A view for all to enjoy and each of us to protect," Barnedt Family & Alston Ohana
I am a huge fan of informational signage wherever I go. The trails has several which give one time to pause, learn and absorb the beauty. This tells of the native Washoe and their deep understanding of plants and their uses.
We will return to this diverse trail. One more thing to love about Tahoe.
