New Art & Old Friends...

I love discovering new things. Knowing we were going to be cruising by Newport Beach, I checked out Atlas Obscura to see what treasures we might find there.

And what did this town have to offer? Bunnyhenge- fourteen curious and controversial white bunnies which sit in a circle near Newport Beach City Hall.
Don't you think Harehenge would have been a better name?

This is the third phase of this exhibition. Sculptures created by artists from across the nation are selected 10 at a time to sit in Civic Center Park for two years on a rotating schedule. No Swimming, by Oleg Lobykin, seems out of place in a beach town (remember Jaws?). This 12 foot fin was first seen at Burning Man. Interesting.
Popsicles fits perfectly. I liked the whimsy of this colorful steel, wood and stucco jumble of ice pops.
Cultural Pedestrians is a quintet of 6-foot-tall posts carved in relief with faces of diverse races. Pretty cool.

"In essence, the city Civic Center sculpture garden
has become a museum without walls."
It is also an amazing arboretum. What diverse flora and fauna. Wow.

And on the property is the Public Library. What an incredible place with a really incredible Friends of the Library bookstore. I do love to support the Friends!
Steve had some work to do in North Orange County so he dropped me off at Annie's for some reconnecting. We met at freshman orientation at Cal State Fullerton in 1980. She is my oldest friend and when we get back together, it's as if we're those same two coeds with the world ahead of them. Fun stuff.
Real friends were the kind where you pick up where you’d left off,
whether it be a week since you’d seen each other or two years.
