Saké Tastings at Toast Tahoe...

Our friends, Len & Cyndy won an evening of saké and invited us along. We were excited because we wanted to learn about this treat from Japan but also we had been wanting to go to Toast since it opened. We were very impressed!

The saké lesson was hosted by Ikumi, with help from her only Japanese speaking father, a saké expert. We were taught all about this delicious, unique rice wine.
While we tasted the six different sakés, we ate food specifically chosen to be paired with them.

We learned of the classifications of saké and the factors that make some better than others: the type of rice used, where it was produced, the degree to which the rice had been polished (yes, the rice is polished- wild), the brewing processes, how it was filtered, and much more.

Our brains and our stomachs were fed. We were a pretty contented group.

The thorough and thoughtful preparation for this event was evident. And while not one of us ten was a saké drinker prior to this night, we all departed surprised and delighted with its deliciousness.

After many "domo arigatos", we all promised to return. What a truly unique and super tanoshii experience.
