The Lights on the Lake Fireworks extravaganza, here in South Lake Tahoe, is ranked in the top ten in the nation. Tonight's spectacle earned all the accolades and recognition it can get. Wow.

For our fifth 4th of July here, we accepted the gracious invitation extended by Steve and Cyndi to join them on their sailboat. We met there at 5 PM (and wouldn't return back to the dock until after midnight).

There is no way to truly capture the amazing blue of Lake Tahoe, but this comes pretty close.

We sailed, then anchored, right by the fireworks barge. We've never had 'front row seats' to a fireworks show before.


To be on the Lake to witness the sunset was magical!

This truly was the best spot for the best show... ever!
I took 258 photos of tonight. It was difficult to edit down to just a few. I am my most child-like when fireworks are occurring.

Fireworks had for her a direct and magical appeal. Their attraction was more complex than that of any other form of art. They had pattern and sequence, color and sound, brilliance and mobility; they had suspense, surprise, and a faint hint of danger; above all, they had the supreme quality of transience, which puts the keenest edge on beauty and makes it touch some spring in the heart which more enduring excellences cannot reach. ~Jan Struther
