Lake Elsinore Storm Baseball!!!
Oh man, it has been a little over a decade since we stepped into the Lake Elsinore Diamond (Pete Lehr Field). With the stadium being only 19 miles away, I can't believe it has been ten years. WOW. This fun blog link will provide you with the flashback.
It had been even longer for our son so when I saw there was a game happening, while he was in town, he was totally up for it. For those who don't know, the Lake Elsinore Storm are a Minor League Baseball team of the California League and the Single-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. They have been playing here since 1994.The stadium is small and welcoming. The entertainment provided is hysterical. While the players may not be ready for the 'big leagues' they sure did their best, most of the time (once the whole opposing team walked off the field thinking the Storm had three outs- they didn't... that was something we had never seen before).
For a Friday night, on a three-day weekend, attendance was surprisingly sparse yet the fans were enthusiastic.
And about the mascot, I found this from MascotHallofFame.com, "When it comes to fun in the Inland Valley, you have to mention Thunder The Dog. Thunder is the self-proclaimed California League Mascot of the Year, 19 seasons running. A very special hound, Thunder is one of only a few members of the Canis Thunderus family. He is known for his ability to stand upright, walk on the tops of chairs, dance, drive quads, and generally just act a fool. He first debuted as the primary mascot for the Storm in 2001, taking the place of former Storm mascot Hamlet. And has been a crowd favorite in Lake Elsinore ever since. One of his greatest achievements is spreading the word about staying positive everyday to youth with his message, 'Get your rest, then do your best and be positive, the Thunder Way!' With his book PAWSitivity With Thunder and the Storm Reading for Rewards program, he has been able to share the importance of keeping a Positive Attitude With a Smile with close to 55,000 children in 15 cities and 66 elementary schools this year alone." That's a pretty special mascot!
There's more to watch/see than just the game!
Unlike the last Storm vs Nuts game we attended (the Nuts beat the Storm 9-3), tonight our home team won (6-3)! What a night! Like the last Padres' Game we attended, I think Baseball Fever is spreading. We hope to attend more of both teams' games next year.
♪♫ "Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game." ♫♪
