There's a New Cake Place in Town

Steve and I are spending a lot of time in Carlsbad and we were fortunate to be there for the arrival of the city's tasty new addition- SusieCakes. "Known for its delectable, homestyle baked goods, SusieCakes brings a taste of nostalgia and tradition to Carlsbad with its newest location."

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet the founder, Susan Sarich. What a fun bio, "She grew up in Chicago, where she was called Susie by her two beloved grandmothers, Mildred and Madeline. Every day, Susie would come home from school to enjoy her grandmothers’ company over a glass of milk and a fresh baked treat. This daily baking ritual and special time together in the kitchen left a lasting impression. When Susie grew up to become Susan and moved to the West Coast, she brought along her grandmothers’ carefully recorded recipes on handwritten 3×5 cards. The pure and simple connection those recipes fostered helped Susan form SusieCakes bakeries to share her experience with others. Through SusieCakes, Susan honors Mildred and Madeline: both in her dedication to their baking traditions, and her commitment to providing women with progressive careers in the food & hospitality industry."

How could we resist this? "The grand opening celebration will take place on Aug. 24 from noon to 3 p.m. Highlights include samples of assorted baked goods, music, face painting, a balloon artist, a chance to win free cake for a year, a grab bag gift with every purchase, and more family-friendly activities. Additionally, the first 50 guests in line starting at 11 a.m. will receive a SusieCakes branded coffee mug (we were numbers 46 and 47)."
I don't know who the balloon artist was but she was incredible. The creations she made were like none I have ever seen before.

The bee was by favorite.

This video shows just what SusieCakes is all about. What a gal. What a company.
I love this... “You won’t find flashy trends and flavors at SusieCakes, and you won’t find artificial ingredients,” said founder and CEO, Susan Sarich. “You will find the best-tasting, timeless versions of the cakes and treats you grew up with. Our products have a genuine way of bringing people together." By the way, we took a chocolate cupcake, oozing with chocolate frosting, to Steve's Mom (who is an expert on all things dessert) and she absolutely loved it. What fun and yum!
