Tahoe Art League Studio Tour

On a glorious rainy Friday, Cyndi and I began our day sipping coffees under an umbrella at Revive.

While there, we looked at the 15th Annual Artist Studio Tour map in order to determine where our path would take us. With 13 studios housing 24 artists, we had to be selective since we couldn't do them all in the course of one day.
Our first stop was actually Studio 9, that of the charming Kelly Smith Cassidy.
I have been a fan of her work for years. She creates sculptures of Aspen, Oak and Pine trees with welded bronze and copper.

As with every studio we visited, we were the only ones there (not everyone loves the rain I guess). Kelly spent a great deal of time with us, explaining her history and her process.
Studio 5 was actually a lovely yard which housed seven different artists with seven distinct styles.
Connie Clark exhibited paintings and photography but what I was most enamored with was her printmaking.

Stephen Sandor was also a printmaker though his medium was clay. His ceramics impressed with native plants and grasses were truly unique.
Studio 3 showcased two very talented and very unique artists.
Kim Van Antwerp did a little of everything: abstract oil paintings, wildlife drawings, jewelry, and the most adorable felted critters. I fell in love with this little guy. So dang cute.
Johnathan Sutter was not only a super creative wood carver, he was a very nice guy. His take on the topography of Lake Tahoe was truly one-of-a-kind.
Our last stop was Studio 2, the creative home of Juliet Mevi. She did it all: painting, printmaking, mixed media, and artbooks.
I loved her big canvases of every day people. We spent a great deal of time discussing her art. We both left inspired.

The mission of the Tahoe Art League is "to support and enhance South Lake Tahoe as a vibrant arts community for the cultural and economic benefit and quality of life for local artists and our community." The Three "C's": Creation, Connection, Community were truly felt by us. We could not have picked a better way to spend a long-awaited rainy day.
