Two Parks: Bay View & Deception Pass...

This was the first place where we arrived with reservations during the almost three weeks we've been gone.

Bay View State Park, on Padilla Bay, overlooks the San Juan Islands and offers up magnificent views of the archipelago.
It was the ideal setting for parking for the night and to savor our morning coffee, seaside.
This tiny park has a larger, interesting neighbor: the Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve which makes up 11,000 acres of the bay and draws students, scientists, activists and citizens for research, education, awareness and training. This reserve is one of five such protected areas in the western United States. Its habitat includes open waters, eelgrass beds, intertidal bays, uplands, freshwater sloughs and high salt marsh.

Moving on, Deception Pass State Park, a 4,134-acre marine park, gave us a perfect place to admire the sea and picnic.
I need to add tidepools to my list of things I 💙 about Washington State.
We were mesmerized watching this heron hunt. So very National Geographic.

Rugged cliffs drop to meet the turbulent waters of Deception Pass. The park is known for its breathtaking views, old-growth forests and abundant wildlife.

Each turn around the next bend seems to add such richness to this road adventure.

"Because the greatest part of a road trip
isn't arriving at your destination.
It's all the wild stuff that happens along the way."
