Fallen Leaf Lake: Friends, Flowers & History

To commemorate Jan's birthday in Tahoe splendor, we headed out for a morning of wandering in nature.

Our itinerary was to explore and connect!
This lack of physical distancing was all me. Darn muscle memory. I have years of grabbing Jan and sitting arm and arm. Shoot!

As you can see by all the images, Mother Nature was very generous today.

Lunch was consumed lakeside. What views!

This was Steve's first visit to what remains of Anita Baldwin's cabin named Nid Ji Eh Wa RI (a Hopi word meaning House on the Lake).  Heir to Lucky Baldwin (a very famous historical figure in Tahoe) and the largest private landowner on Fallen Leaf Lake, Anita spent 5 years and a reportedly $1,000,000 on this massive estate (1921).
Guests included everyone from photographer Dorothea Lange to famous personality, Will Rogers. Oh to have been at that dinner party!
This is the same massive fireplace where we posed in the above photo. Gorgeous.

The only structure still standing, of the many, is this abandoned, but amazing, cabin. Wild history.

I mentioned Wooly Aphids before. Jan, a master gardener, had never seen them. It was fun to share what we each knew. It was a day of great discoveries.

Some photos demand no explanation!
I leave you with my favorite critter photo of the day. I absolutely love this little guy. Wow.
