From Spokane to Sandpoint...

Our plan, on this adventure, was to stay out of big cities. That said Spokane called our name, only briefly however.

This world's largest Radio Flyer wagon made the detour a necessity.
WHILE ANYONE UNDER THE AGE of 40 is not likely to remember a time when kids were satisfied with toys as simple as a Radio Flyer wagon, the Big Red Wagon in Spokane’s Riverfront Park ensures that future generations of children don’t forget the wonder of those simpler times.
It's always good to take a break to be a kid again.
Fifth state... the land of potatoes and gorgeous nature.
We spent our first night in Idaho camped along the Priest River.
“Have you also learned that secret from the river;
that there is no such thing as time?"
That the river is everywhere at the same time,
at the source and at the mouth, at the waterfall, at the ferry,
at the current, in the ocean and in the mountains, everywhere
and that the present only exists for it,
not the shadow of the past nor the shadow of the future.”
-Hermann Hesse

We spent the afternoon exploring Sandpoint, a historic town which lies on the shores of Idaho's largest lake, 43-mile-long Lake Pend Oreille. The town is surrounded by three major mountain ranges and is home to Idaho's largest ski resort.

Its history is displayed on these amazing artworks, placed throughout town. So cool.

Among other distinctions awarded by national media in the past decade, in 2011 Sandpoint was named the nation's "Most Beautiful Small Town".
This is a town that deserves a more thorough explore.

We will be back. We continue north! We're loving the discoveries all along the way.

Jacqueline Manderscheid of Boise, ID since 2005 read Idaho à la cARTe dedication from Denise Haerr 7/19/2006 "Happy Birthday". This year I turned 60, in my birthplace (Spokane, WA). Did you miss ZIPS on N Market near Euclid? Last location and over 50 yrs old still hand cut + breaded fish n chips in Spokane. Famous as Dicks on 3rd Ave. A foodie tid bit.
