Birding on a 'Summer' Day...

While Tahoe is having a heatwave, we are embracing the great outdoors.

I even spotted two rarities... birds that shouldn't be here, this time of year. The Wood Duck (above) is one of the most colorful of the water fowl. I think he might be my new favorite.
The Great Egret was elegant and a wonderful discovery for this new birder!

The warm weather has made spring arrive early!
“To be standing together in a frosty field, looking up into the sky,
marveling at birds and reveling in the natural world around us,
was a simple miracle.”
― Lynn Thomson, Birding with Yeats: A Mother's Memoir

My bird book is upstairs. What is the name of the spotted bird? Is it a type of woodpecker?

What number are you up to now??
