Kegan Hikes the John Muir Trail...

At 7:56 AM, we received 'the call' from the summit of Mt. Whitney (14,496') asking us to come get Kegan.  After only 14 days, he finished the entire 220 mile trail.

They began their hike by climbing Half Dome in Yosemite.
After 100 miles, Josh's knees gave up and they made the tough decision to separate.
For the next 120 miles, Kegan did it alone.
Awaking at 4 AM, Kegan climbed to the summit of Mt. Whitney and signed the ledger in the Smithsonian Institution Shelter (1909). He called us to come and get him. When he learned we had a 243 mile drive, he said that was perfect, since he had a 10 mile hike down!
Right as we walked up to the trail head, Kegan was hiking down.  To see how totally happy he was with this huge accomplishment was incredible. For several hours, as we drove home to Tahoe, we got to hear all the details about this amazing adventure.  We are so proud of him and he of himself.
Keep close to Nature's heart...
and break clear away, once in a while,
and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods.
Wash your spirit clean.

WOW! Way to go. Tell him Congrats. Jim hiked the Pacific Crest Trail in 1976 from Mexico to Canada for 6 mos. He still tells stories. I sure he too will have stories for years to come. And ALONE for half of it? Glad there were fellow hikers around.

Wow!! Please give Kegan a high five from us. And his next beer is on us! (Denise, you will have to front the money for me.) :) Considering that the average time is 20 days it is even more impressive. I can't help but wonder if he enjoyed it more with his friend, or alone (like John Muir). The pictures are epic. Thank you for sharing!!
