The road to Salt Lake City...

We left Jackson on the scenic US Highway 89, sometimes called the National Park Highway.  It links seven national parks. Additionally, fourteen other National Park areas, mostly National Monuments are also reached from this backbone of the Rockies.  While slow going, the views were breathtaking.

Our first, brief stop was Afton, the home to the world's largest elk horn arch.  You know my love of the "world's largest" anythings.  This arch spans 75 feet across the four lanes of the highway and consists of 3,011 elk antlers and weighs 15 tons.

We also stopped at The National Oregon/California Trail Center located near the Idaho/Wyoming border
on what was once a major stopping point for emigrant wagons on the original old Oregon Trail.  Fun to learn about those incredible pioneers who came before us.

Our next three nights will be spent in Salt Lake City, UT.  Home is truly on the horizon
