Zion- Utah's Oldest National Park...

We spent the day exploring this uniquely beautiful place.  I actually used the word majestic to describe the canyon before us. Ma-jes-tic  adjective:  characterized by or possessing majesty; of lofty dignity or imposing aspect; stately; grand.  Pretty perfect word!

We began our time in Zion at the Riverside walk...
also called the Gateway to the Narrows.  The steep canyon walls and lush trees covered the path and created a comfortable shade (it was 102)! Hanging gardens along the sloped walls of the trail, fed by trickling falls of water, home to many of Zion's exotic forms of wildlife provided so much to see as we meandered the mile long path. The end of the hike is the entrance to the Narrows (16 miles of pretty strenuous hiking with 60% of it in the river) .  While we were ill prepared to travel further, we did wade around in the river and delighted in the beauty and peacefulness of the canyon.

An ice cream break, at the Lodge, fueled our last excursion...the Lower Emerald Pool.  Popular among hikers for its beauty and accessibility, the trail is short and gently sloped. Shaded by cottonwoods and other riverside greenery, the trail winds through one of Zion's many hidden paradises, leading to a startlingly gorgeous canyon oasis.  We were greeted with waterfalls and reflecting pools.  Wow!

While today was only a brief introduction of Zion to Kegan, it was a thoroughly wonderful detour for us all.
