LONDON, Here We Come!

It's been 26 years since we Crossed the Pond with the purpose of actually visiting the city of London. This trip all began with a movie and a 25 year old musical memory. More about that later.

This vacation has the distinction of being not only the most spontaneous (booked only four months ago) but it is the farthest we've traveled for the shortest amount of time for the most amount of money. We will spend exactly/only 96 hours in London yet I've orchestrated an itinerary that will get us the most out of those 5,760 minutes! Woohoo.
Gleefully, our third day will be spent in the company of Eve, a friend we met in Spoleto when we offered to help her harvest her olives. She lives in London and just happened to be returning from her home in the Italian countryside the day we arrive. Timing is everything. The last time we saw her was in our old Italian home town in 2018. It's been seven years!

The concert I mentioned previously is our finale in London! How did this come about, you might ask? In the Summer of 2000 (full story of our fandom is here), Steve and I became fans of a British pop star few in America had ever heard of- Robbie Williams. In January, after seeing his biopic, Better Man, at the movie theater (we were two of the four audience members), we assumed there had to be a concert tour to follow and we were right. We immediately decided that we just had to experience his concert which just happened to be in LONDON. The venue, Emirates Stadium, has a capacity of 60,704. It's going to be the most epic event we have attended in decades, if not ever!

After the big city, we will be found at this darling 18th century farmhouse. We will conclude our whirlwind trip to the UK here with friends. When we decided we were going to London, we reached out to Eileen and Ian who we had just rendezvoused with in France last year. We asked if we could end our journey with a return stay in their lovely home outside Cambridge (we were there in 2014). They agreed. So for three glorious nights we will be in the company of old friends who we met in Italy 15 years ago.

So while this trip is short in duration, it is going to be incredibly fulfilling. We are seeing new sights, experiencing unique activities, and reconnecting with dear friends. I predict it all to be fabulously successful. Cheerio!
